Markus Berghausen is a master joiner, an entrepreneur and, since 30 August 2024, a publicly appointed and sworn expert in the joinery trade.
He has been working in the joinery and carpentry trade for decades and has extensive practical and technical experience in the fields of furniture making, interior fit-out and building components.
Professional qualifications and career:
Markus Berghausen completed his apprenticeship in carpentry between 1986 and 1989. In 1995, he successfully passed his master craftsman’s examination. He also obtained the qualification “Business Economist in the Skilled Trades”, thereby combining technical expertise in the trades with business management skills.
In 1996, he founded the Markus Berghausen Joinery in Düsseldorf, which specialises in the production of bespoke furniture and high-quality interior fittings.
On 30 August 2024, Markus Berghausen was appointed by the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts as a publicly appointed and sworn expert in the carpentry trade.
Work as an expert.
As a publicly appointed and sworn expert, Markus Berghausen is primarily concerned with the technical assessment of work and matters relating to the carpentry and joinery trades.
His main areas of expertise include, amongst others:
- Preparation of expert reports and technical assessments
- Advice and technical assessment in disputes within the joinery and carpentry trades
- Assessment of furniture, individual pieces of furniture, kitchens and fittings in interior and shopfitting
- Assessment of doors, windows, stairs and floors
- Technical evaluation of interior fit-out work, for example in medical practices, hotels, offices and catering establishments
- Damage assessments, for example following burglary, transport or relocation
- Verification of invoices and technical support during handover inspections
- Conducting proficiency examinations in accordance with Sections 7a, 8 and 9 of the German Crafts and Trades Regulation Act (HwO)
His work as an expert may be of relevance to, amongst others, courts, public authorities and administrative bodies, solicitors, property developers, private clients, architects, notaries, insurance companies and housing associations .
Further qualification: REFA administrator.
In addition to his qualifications as a master joiner, a business economist specialising in the craft trades and an expert, Markus Berghausen holds an additional qualification as a REFA administrator.
This gives him in-depth knowledge in the areas of planning, time recording and process organisation within the skilled trades.

In addition to his work as an expert, Markus Berghausen remains the owner of the Markus Berghausen Joinery in Düsseldorf. The joinery operates as an independent business specialising in furniture making and interior fit-outs.
Markus Berghausen carries out his work as a publicly appointed and sworn expert independently and on his own responsibility. His role as owner of the Markus Berghausen joinery business is to be regarded separately from this.
